How Should Parents Raise Their Children?

There is no set agenda to how a parent is supposed to set regulations for their children. The only case in which such an idea is legitimate is if there are particular outcomes a parent is trying to avoid for their child. Setting rules without the proper explanation towards how they help the child long term will only make them feel like they would have to sneak around. The method of regulation may even make the child feel that breaking said rules will punish them throughout their lifetime. The adequate key to parenting is not in keeping children in line, but in giving them standards to become decent adults. The main point of setting limits, nevertheless, is showing your attentiveness and care in what the subject is doing with their life.


Providing guidance is about establishing a relationship between the guardian and youth to understand how to enter the world from their perspectives. Therefore, they may not always see things the same way due to a generation gap and outside influences not having to do with the parent. At that point, it is up to the "child" to decide their fate. Coincidentally the guardian also has some responsibility towards how the child manages life because of these restrictions that were set while coming of age. The best way to balance the freedoms and limits of parenting is through healthy communication. This may be from either parties, but ultimately lead to secrets and assumptions about each other if not practiced. If there is a rule that seems to be uncalled for in some way, the child should voice their opinion. If a rule is underestimated, the pros and cons should be properly weighed by the guardian. This may still lead to the continuance of rebellion, but in a broad perspective both roles are playing their part properly. Each have their own lives and inspire one another mutually and beneficially, which is what is most important.
